The IT industry is
evolving at a pace that is unprecedented.
We are not only seeing incredible advancements in
technology, but we are also witnessing paradigm shifts in how
companies are leveraging and using these technologies.
One of the
biggest trends is the move to "cloud computing".
What is cloud computing? In a
nutshell, it is accessing technology-enabled services over the
Internet. There is a growing movement to
reduce the IT infrastructure within the walls of a
business. Why? Because
it's far more cost-effective and reliable to have your
applications and technology hosted and managed by a third
party whose entire business model is focused on delivering
IT.
Another major
trend is the disappearance of the traditional desktop
PC. It is being replaced by thin
clients and terminals connecting to virtual desktops or
remotely accessing servers and applications.
The benefits are obvious. Desktop
PC's attract viruses and spyware, hard drives fail, help desk
requests to fix PC problems are costly, PC's are out of date
within 2 to 3 years, and they require constant
maintenance. Imagine eliminating those

Employee Spotlight
Seth Tanner is a
network engineer who joined the Lanspeed team in
2007. Seth has extensive experience with Macintosh,
Linux and VMWare.
Seth graduated from
Westmont in 2004. Outside of work, Seth enjoys spending
time with his wife and being outdoors: hiking, mountain
biking, rollerblading, skiing, camping, hunting, fishing and
off-roading.
