Microsoft Server
2008
Microsoft
is planning to officially launch Windows Server
2008 on February 27, 2008. The long wait for Server
2008 will be worth it. There are many great new
features that will positively impact your business, such
as - built-in server virtualization, a new and
improved web server (IIS 7.0), signficant enhancements to
Terminal Services, stronger security, Server Core, etc.
Lanspeed recently completed the
Microsoft Server 2008 boot camp and has been testing Server 2008 for
several months. If you'd like to learn more, please contact us
at 877-682-9981.
Lunch and Learn
Beginning in November,
Lanspeed will be offering a free "Lunch and Learn". We'll
bring lunch to your office and spend 1 hour giving demonstrations of
the latest technologies that will improve your business.
If you'd like to get added
to our "Lunch and Learn" schedule, please contact Daniel Tuite at

End
of Year Checklist
The new year is
just around the corner. Now is a good time to make I.T.
decisions for the upcoming year. Here are some tips and
things to think about:
- Most vendors are offering signficant
discounts on hardware and software this month as their
fiscal year is coming to an end. It can be a good time
to buy, and if you're a small business, don't forget to take
advantage of section 179.
- As winter weather approaches, it's a good
time to make sure you are successfully backing up your data
and taking a copy off-site regularly.
- Have everyone choose new passwords.
Make sure the passwords are at lest 8 characters long with
alpha and numeric characters.
- Internet bandwidth costs are
dropping. Contact your ISP and make sure you are
getting the best deal you can.
- Microsoft is coming out with many new
products next year including Windows Server 2008 and a new
version of Small Business Server 2008. There are many
signficant features in these new operating systems. If
you'd like to learn more, contact us at 877-682-9981.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to
everyone! We want to thank you all for making this
Lanspeed's best year ever!

Remote Connectivity - SSL
VPNs
If you or your
colleagues are still connecting to the network using a
client based VPN or a traditional Windows VPN, let us
introduce you to SSL VPNs. SSL VPNs are far easier to
install and require little to no training or support, and are
just as secure as the traditional client-based
VPNs.
An SSL VPN uses a
standard web browser to make the secure connection to your
corporate network. You simply have to type in the name
of your URL, enter in a username and password, and you're
connected! Best of all, you can do this from any
computer connected to the
internet.
If you'd like to learn more
about SSL VPNs, please let us
know.
